St Patrick's Day fines should be a deterrent to future trouble - Lo
21/07/10
Alliance South Belfast MLA Anna Lo has said that the fines that were handed down to eleven people for on-street drinking on St Patrick's Day in the Holylands should act as deterrent to those intent on causing future trouble.
Anna Lo MLA said: "I hope these fines will act as a deterrent to those who see St Patrick's Day as a time to cause anti-social behaviour.
St Patrick's Day should be a day for the whole family and not just for people to cause trouble. Nobody wants to see a repeat of the events of previous years when hundreds of students were drinking on the streets in the Holylands and police in riot gear had to be called in.
There has been a lot of work done by all the organisations involved included the Universities, the PSNI and Belfast City Council to tackle this problem, these fines are evidence that their efforts are working."
