Lo Hails alley clean up a success
21/09/09
South Belfast Alliance MLA Anna Lo has taken part in a clean-up operation at an alley behind Northbrook Street, in the Lisburn Road area. She helped organise the event in response to the fact that Roads Service have failed to act to adopt the alleyway and Belfast City Council supported her clean-up efforts.
Anna Lo MLA said: “I want to express gratitude to Belfast City Council, Business in the Community and their volunteers for their assistance in this tidy-up operation. This has been a wonderful model of co-operative working, and the efforts of the day were a complete success.
I have been campaigning for some time now to have the alley adopted. The alley was awarded money from the Better Belfast scheme, for its upkeep, but the money had to go back into the pot because the Road Service would not fulfil the condition of adopting the alley. Local residents should not have to put up with this alleyway getting into such a mess and I will continue to press Roads Service to adopt it.”
